Matsumoto Castle

After leaving Kofu Castle, I took the train to Matsumoto.  The castle was about a 15 minute walk from the train station.  Matsumoto Castle is one of the original 12 castles. This castle was build in 1590 and is considered second only to Himeji Castle.

First I walked around the castle grounds. It is just amazing to see this incredible castle in person!

The entry fee is 610 yen and totally worth it! There are six levels.  Some photos were taken on the way up and some on the way down.  The stairs are very very steep and photos are not allowed while going up and down the stairs because it is too dangerous.  Most of the signage is in English as well as Japanese.

Now, going back down

It is such a beautiful castle, and you can feel the authenticity. I especially like the fact that it is not on top of a mountain, but very much part of the town around it.

Japanese architecture is a work of art. The castle building is amazing and so wonderfully houses artifacts.

Gosh, that is a pretty castle. It's an impressive defensive structure, but yet it looks amazing!
